In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Kodinar constituency had 6 candidates for assembly seat contention. Kodinar was one of 77 seats won by the Indian National Congress. Indian National Congress's Mohanlal Malabhai Vala won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Vadher Rambhai Mepabhai by a margin of 14,535 votes.
96.4% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Mohanlal Malabhai Vala got a total of 72,408 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Vadher Rambhai Mepabhai got 57,873 votes. Bahujan Mukti Party's candidate Vinodbhai Khimabhai Solanki grabbed 1,780 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 53.6%, 42.8% and 1.3% respectively.
In Gujarat Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Solanki Jethabhai Danabhai beat Indian National Congress's Mohanbhai Malabhai Vala by 8,477 votes.
